1. Is remote jump starting the same as a portable jump starter?

8. Will remote jump starting fix a bad battery?
No.

11. Does remote jump starting apply to electric vehicles (EVs)?
Yes — but only for the vehicle’s 12-volt system.
Most electric vehicles have two separate battery systems:
• A large high-voltage battery that powers the vehicle’s motor
• A smaller 12-volt battery that powers electronics, locks, computers, and allows the vehicle to start
If the 12-volt battery becomes discharged, the vehicle may not power on — even if the large high-voltage battery is fully charged.

12. Is remote jump starting the same as a trickle charger or battery maintainer?
No.
A trickle charger (or battery maintainer) connects to an external AC power outlet and is designed to keep a vehicle’s battery charged while the vehicle is parked, typically in a garage or location with access to electricity. Using one requires accessing the battery, connecting charging leads while the vehicle is parked, and disconnecting them before driving — unlike a permanently installed system that remains in place.
A permanently installed remote jump-start system operates differently. It does not require connection to external power while parked. Instead, it maintains its own onboard reserve and is designed to provide starting power if the primary battery becomes unexpectedly discharged.
Trickle chargers focus on preventing battery depletion. Remote jump starting focuses on recovery if depletion occurs.
The two approaches operate differently: battery maintainers and trickle chargers apply low current over extended periods, while jump starting delivers a brief burst of power only when needed.
